Nat at the Baseball Game
by Rafael Salinas
Lampasas Middle School
It all began on Monday. My brother Jim said, “Tim lets go to school.” We had two bikes. On the way we got thirsty, so we stopped at the nearest gas station and bought cokes. I filled up my glass with coke. When we got to school I threw my glass into the garbage and the rim of the glass snapped off. After school, we were going on our bikes racing home and I was ahead when my bike chain broke off and I hit a fir tree. The wheels whirred around. My brother Jim helped me up. I had to ride home on Jim’s bike. When we home my dad gave me a pill for the pain. I was feeling better, so my dad left to go back to work at the mill factory because of bills. When he came home, I asked him if he would buy me a new bike. My dad said, “Not till your birthday.” “Yes sir!” I said. I then started to crave for a dill pickle. While I was looking for the pickles in the kitchen, it started to rain hard and harder. The lights started to dim. Then we had no light. Our house sits on top of a hill. This is why the lightning hit the power box to the house. What will happen next? |

Who can get to the princess to first
by Abigail Jones
Bandera Middle School
Once upon a time there was this beautiful princess named Meg. She was the richest princess in the kingdom and she had to wed a prince. She couldn’t decide nor could her parents which one to marry. There were three princes to choose from and each has to go on a very long task or journey. The three princes are:
Ted: the weird one who believes in ghost and witch craft and likes to scare people and he’s not to bright either.
Ned: is the nerd out of the family and he always likes to read and he hates sports.
Jed: is the popular, smart, athletic and good looking prince who everybody loved.
They were called to the palace by this old man who had to tell them what they would be doing. On the day the task started all the princes were interviewed and asked a question like;
1.How are you feeling right now?
Ted answered: Fine and you?
2.Who do you think will win?
Ned said: Me because I am smart and cool.
3.What kind of task do you think there will be?
Jed answered: How cool you are task, I will win that one for sure.
When the bell rang the first tasks began. Jed went into the forest. He said, “Where can that lion be and then he found it in a black dark cave filled with mud. The lion led Jed to this big green house that smelled really bad; like old milk. Next he had to go to the house and that will be the other half of his challenge.
Ned found the green house but, he had to beat his brother. On order to do that he would have to jump in the middle of the bed and use a hex to get to the second task. He finally landed on a big red car. He was so glad that he did not land on that big porcupine. Ned gave a big “Whew!” of relief. Next Ned had to look for a big sign that said, go to the right. He saw the sign in a chicken farm. He started to run because he saw Ted.
Ted got there fist, the sign gave instructions for the other half of the second task. It said, “You must break up all the eggs and find a paper that is in a mess of worms.” Ted did as the paper instructed. The paper said that you must find a baby cat and make the cat mew and she will tell you where to find a hole that you must jump through.” He found the cat and did what she told him to do. He jumped through the hole and then it seemed like time went so fast that all his brothers were there.
After he meet all his brothers they were approached by a big ugly fat rat and the rat said, “You all have made it to the last and final task. You need to find the princess and save her from a 100,000 foot tower. On your mark get set, go find her!” They all left quickly and went searching for the princess.
Jed was in 1 he was only 25 feet from the tower when a green ogre came at him with a stick. Ted fought the ogre and won the battle. He was finally there when sleepy arrows began to shoot him and he fell asleep. (It only lasted 10 minutes)
Next Ned came up and fought the ogre and arrows. He started climbing up the tower and rescued the princess. On June 11.1996 they got married and all of their family members sat on a beautiful pew and watched the ceremony. The princes had on a beautiful white delicate gown. They lived a wonderful life, happily ever after. |

The Evil Rat
by D'Ann Arnet
Bandera Middle School
Once upon a time, there was a rat that lived in a hat and a cat that wanted to eat the rat. The rat said, “No!” The rat lived in the cat owner’s home.
My friend is the cat owner. The cat’s name is. It is a girl. My friend’s name is Haley. She is in the 9th grade at Bandera High School. She is so funny that I think she is crazy.
The cat is so stupid is runs up and down the stairs.
The rat it makes Haley so mad. Haley will kick the cat down the stairs because she’s made the cat won’t catch the rat.
Haley’s little sister’s name is Mickala. She is as crazy as her sister. She does not like the cat or the rat either. She is meanest to the cat, but the rat gets on here nerves. She does not like the pest. She wants the pest “OUT NOW!”
Finally, Haley had an idea to get rid of the rat and keep the cat. She got cheese on a plate and set up a trap for the sneaky rat. The cat ate the cheese instead, which made Haley even madder. She decided to try the trap one more time. She locked the cat in her sister’s room, and her sister got mad at her, so she threw the cat out of the first-floor window.
The rat, missing the cat, left out the front door. The whole family lived happily, but the cat got chased by the dogs out of the fence. |

by Adrian Lopez
Lampasas Middle School
Last Christmas, there was a dad who was getting ready to dress up as Santa Clause. The small lad saw him getting dressed and he was a tad sad. The small lad went to his room because he got mad at his dad for dressing up as Santa Clause. The lad laid his head down on a soft pad on his bed. The lad had a magazine and he read the ad. It said, “The Fad is New.” The ad was telling children that the Santa clause costume is the new fad for dads. The lad was so happy to have read his magazine. He was not mad at his dad anymore. |

The Day I Went Hunting!
by Jonathan Eckstein
Bandera Middle School
“Well I am sitting in Ag class board” “Jonathan you need to pay attention”.
“Yes mamm” I replied.
Gently then the teacher Miss Lola was yelling at my friend Mario. He is always in trouble. Well I guess I should tell you my story while Miss Lola is talking to Mario so I don’t get into trouble that would be bad.
It all started on last Sunday morning I was taking the trash out and I picked up the newspaper and then I put it next to my Pa. He always reads the ad in the paper. Ma was making breakfast for us then I fed my hound dog Buster.
My Pa came down from the stairs in his long johns he says to me, “How is my little lad doing this morning?” in a deep voice.
I said to him, “good Pa” as I was poring his coffee out of the kettle. “Where are the pads to the chairs, boy?”
“Sorry, Pa. I forgot to put them back on after I dusted them.”
“That’s ok boy, but don’t forget next time”
I just ate just a tad of my breakfast. Pa and me went to go set our things for the day. Every Saturday Pa and I go hunting and I wanted my little sister to come along with us but my Pa says you’re to young.
My sister got mad so we told her to make a new type of fad and she said in her little baby soft voice “Ok!”
Pa and me head out to the forest while the sunrises. We needed to be there before the sun went over the hill, that’s when the deer go over the fence line. Then they will be hard to chase around the forest and shoot.
Pa and I where headed to the tree where we always go. Pa asked, “Where is my gun?” It is right here Pa, did you see something?” I said excitedly.
“ Yep! Look it’s a twelve pointer!” Pa said joyfully.
“ All right way to go dad lets get him! POW! A loud gun shot hit the deer. It was so loud the forest sounded like a bunch howling monkeys.
Pa and I brought home a good-looking deer for dinner and it was good. We also got a rabbit for my little sister, she loved it a lot. I found my brother a little baby horse to take care of and, well as for my ma all she needed was my love from her little boy and her wonderful husband.
As I was startled from my thoughts I heard Miss Lola say, “Jonathan please escort Mario to the office before he get in more trouble”.
“Yes mamm, I will” Well I guess you know the real story. See you next time “LETS GO MARIO”. |

The Greatest Day Ever
by Dustin Rumple
Lampasas Middle School
One morning I was walking home from my dorm. I tripped over a cord and hit my head. I noticed my pants were torn too. This is going to make my mom mad. When I got home, I asked my mom to not be harsh with me because I had torn my pants. The walk home made my mouth parch. At home my mom made me sort the laundry. After sorting the laundry, I went to go eat some corn with a fork. While walking home a dog had followed me. I asked my mom and dad if I could keep her because I got a norm on my math test. I got to name her Joy. Joy and I went into the forest behind my house and we found a fort that was surrounded by a marsh. There was a ford in front of the marsh. At the ford, Joy and I fished with a cork on the line. After we were done fishing we walked around the fort and noticed the forest was charred. We went back home to eat lunch and my mom told me that my nephew as born that day. This was the best day ever. |

My Journey to Mexico
by Maria Salinas
Lampasas Middle School
On a cold winter day, my friends and I were in my room taking pictures of each other because I was moving. I got hungry for food; my parents bought us food from Jack in the Box. My brother always acts like a fool when he’s hungry. He always makes a mess and my dad makes him clean his messes. After supper my friends have to leave because their parents come for them. We are all together in the living room. I asked my parent’s where are we moving to? They said Mexico. So the next morning we leave for Mexico. When it got dark, we rented a room. It was a cold room. So I put on a jacket with a hood that I had hanging on a hook. After my nap, I heard a hoot sound. I got scared and covered my face and fell back to sleep. The next morning, I got up and I put my left shoe on my right foot. I was not paying attention. So I had to take my shoes off and put them on the right feet. We finally get back on the road to Mexico. On the way I see sheep with long wool grazing in the field. They eat the roots of some plants. The sheep’s hoofs were big and black. My brother and I gathered wood for a camp fire at our new house. My brother asked me if I wanted to shoot some hoops. I said, “Let’s play one on one.” Guess who wins? “Me”. |

One Sunny Day
by Amber Delgado
Bandera Middle School
It was a sunny day and my dad was waxing my mom’s car. My brother and I were playing catch. I said, “ Pass the ball to me.” and he did. My older brother went to the lake and caught a bass. My oldest brother Matthew said we were going to eat bass for dinner. My mom was in the living room waiting for a fax from our Aunt, ssking us if we wanted to go to her house on Friday. My mom called her and said, “Yes, but why did you fax?” She replied, “I’m at work I can get in trouble when I’m working if I make personal calls. My mom told Matt we could take and cook the bass at my aunt’s house.
It is Friday my mom calls my Aunt and asks her” What time were we suppose to come over?” she said 4:00. Chris and I played videogames to pass the time. It was 4:00, we got dressed and ready to go. We got the bass and left for my aunt’s house.
I heard that my cousin has a Wii and we brought our Wii remote and all of our games, we have eight. My cousin Gabby has a dog named Chiko so my mom told us we would need to be careful with our stuff.
My mom said that we needed to get some gas on the way. She asked, “Do you want anything Chris or Olivia “ “I wanted some sunflower seeds and Olivia did to. “Amber” my mom said. I’ll take beef jerky “okay” my mom said.
We got to my Aunt’s house “Gabby said that I was sick and I had a rash”. “Okay, who is hungry?” my Uncle asked happily.” I used my gas grill on these chicken and beef fajitas. We all ate dinner and it sure was good, even the bass that my uncle cooked while we ate the fajitas.
My mom took out a camera that one of her friends named Max gave her at work. She began taking pictures of everybody and I left the room quietly. After we finished eating and taking pictures we all played Wii. We all had a good time. I even beat my cousin at several games. We snaked on the left over bass and fajitas and played Wii games all night. |

by Heather Elliott
Bandera Middle School
I have cat name Casey. She is a fat and sleeps on a mat in the afternoon. When I come home from school, I play with her stomach and back. She waits for me on the porch until I come home from school.
Sometimes Casey chases a rat that lives in the barn or Casey goes roaming around the neighborhood. When I can’t find her, I put my hat on to go look for her. When I can’t find her I sometime, I go to the backyard I can’t find her I sometimes go in for a little awhile and watch TV. When I go back outside and when I don’t see her in the backyard. I go in for a one-hour and wait for her to come back. One hour later I went outside to play she came and I was very happy.
When I go outside sometime Casey is at the porch in the backyard. When I shake the food bowl she comes sometime. When she is there I sometimes pat her on her head and back and sometime on the stomach.
One time I went outside my kitty sat on the swing, when I come to set on the swing to pet her. When I went outside to go play with Casey on the swing or on the chair, when we sat out there until the bat came out at night.
There was a boy name Nat and he was new to the neighborhood. His mom and him came over to meet my mother and my father and my little brother. Then I ask him if he liked cat and he said yes. Then we went outside to show him my kitty Casey. He said that she is a pretty kitty and that what I said when I first saw her on the rock fence.
Nat’s brother Sam were there too; he was three years old, and he dumped water on the cat. Then my mom came to see what happen. Then she said, “Who dump water on the cat.” Then in the morning she was back. She let me pet her back and was happy that I got to pet her on the head to. |
