Digit
was so excited about being at Ben Milam Elementary in Cameron,
Texas, that on Friday, March 11, he came alive! While Digit
was visiting Cameron he went to our historic courthouse, jail,
and the original home of Ben Milam himself. Ben Milam was one
of the leaders who helped Texas retake San Antonio during the
Siege of Baxer in the Texas Revolution. Although Milam was killed
in 1835 at the beginning of the revolution, some feel his leadership
was a key factor in Texas winning its independence.
Digit also visited many places on campus. He visited our ELS
lab, our Preschool Program
for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) classroom, the book fair,
the gym and the cafeteria.
We ended the day with a math party
1. Second-grader Vanessa Jennings wrote: “Vanessa and
Jamishua were in P.E. They wanted to see how many times they
could jump rope before Coach Brashear blew his whistle. Vanessa
jumped 10 times and Jamishua jumped 13 times. How many times
did they jump altogether?”
2. Second-grader Pedro Gutierrez wrote: “Pedro and Jacob
were on the playground. They decided to see how many times they
could swing in 60 seconds. Pedro swung 30 times and Jacob swung
20 times. How many times did they swing altogether?”
3. First-grader Mireya Gonzales wrote: “Mireya and Karla
went to buy apples. The apples cost $10, and the girls had $15.
How much
money will they get back?”
4. First-grader Alex Ibarra wrote: “Alex had 10 oranges.
He gave three to Wayne. How many oranges does Alex have now?”
5. First-grader Wayne Rothe wrote: “Wayne had four toy
dinosaurs and he got two more. How many dinosaurs does he have
now?” |
