Q #1: I do not have enough test
forms to complete my end-of-year testing. How do I get
more test forms?
A. Along with your fall testing materials and software,
CEI enclosed a faxable test reorder form in your 2003
Renewal Support Pack. Simply complete the form, fax it
to CEI and we will order the tests for you. If you cannot
find the form, your Educational Consultant or our Professional
Services staff can provide one for you.
Q #2: Some of my students are
working on the Letter Recognition program, but they still
cannot name all of the letters. Is there something I can
do to help them make more progress with the alphabet? top
A. It is true that in order to become successful readers,
children must learn about how letters correspond to their
sounds. However, students also need to develop metalinguistic
skills. In other words, they must learn how to work with
language. Students need to learn and remember sounds,
but they also need to know that words make up sentences
and syllables and phonemes make up words.
For that reason, if the student isn't making as much progress
as you would like on Letter Recognition, you might want
to move the student on to Essential Learning Systems.
ELS actually helps the students to improve reading skills
and develop phonological awareness at the same time. Because
they spell out each of the words, ELS tasks like See Hear
Spell and Hear Spell give students the chance to practice
their phonemes. The exercises also teach children that
the letters make up the words, the words make up the sentences,
and so on.
Remember, just as a child can be very fluent at using
nouns before he actually knows what a noun is, a student
can also be a fluent reader without knowing the names
of the individual letters.
Q #3: I received the Success
Sampler CD that you sent, but I did not receive copies
of the user's guides for the programs. Would it be possible
to order a manual? top
A. You may always call our Customer Service representatives
to order any of our printed materials. However, for your
convenience, the Success Sampler CD contains electronic
copies of the user's guides for both eQuick Tales™
and Sentence Assembler™. To find the electronic
copies of the manuals, access the CD files on your computer.
Double-click the Manual folder, and you will find a .PDF
file for each program. You may double-click the file to
open and print it, or you may simply read the file on
your screen. For more detailed instructions on opening
these files, please visit the Knowledge Base page on our
website. To get there, type http://www.ceilearning.com/knowBase.php
into your browser. Then check out Item 124 for the eQuick
Tales guide or Item 125 for the Sentence Assembler guide.
Q #4: I've located the user's
guides on my Success Sampler CD. However, when I click
on the .PDF files, they won't open. What do I need to
do?
A. You must install the Adobe Acrobat Reader
before you'll be able to view the manuals. To install
the Acrobat Reader, access the CD files on your computer.
Double-click on the Adobe Support folder, and complete
the program setup. If you prefer, you can download the
Adobe Acrobat Reader from Knowledge Base Item 124 on our
website. To get there, type http://www.ceilearning.com/knowBase.php
into your browser. In the Workaround section, you can
click to find information on how to get a free copy of
the product.
Q #5: When I start the Sentence
Assembler program, the screen asks me to enter a password.
What should I enter for the password?
A. Please refer to page 4 in the Sentence Assembler
User's Guide. There, you'll find a chart that explains
how the different passwords access different types of
Sentence Assembler lessons in both the Macintosh and Windows
environments.
Q #6: How do I encourage community
awareness and involvement with our CEI lab?
A. Look for ideas in SHARE. Examples on how to
accomplish community awareness and involvement are published
in most issues. Some past examples include:
o Holding a "Parent's Night" to allow parents
to experience the CEI program
firsthand;
o Recruiting volunteers to read along with students; and
o Offering evening classes for illiterate or ESL adults
in the community.
Q #7: Who do I contact with
