Luke Kilgard is a quiet, shy young man who has many fine qualities. He is gentle and humble in spirit; yet, he has a great sense of humor, and he loves all things science.
Luke entered the reading lab Briarwood School in Houston, Texas, in fifth grade as a struggling reader. With time, patience, and hard work, he has made incredible progress in the lab. In two years he has excelled on his MAP and Diagnostic Screening Test: Reading (DST:R) tests, scoring from 1-4 grade levels in specific areas. His teachers never have to tell him to "get back to work," because he comes in and works efficiently without these reminders.
Luke's mom Courtney says, "Since the beginning of this year, Luke's entire attitude toward reading has changed. He has always loved books, but was only comfortable when someone read out loud to him. Now, he feels the confidence to read on his own. He works diligently on every task given to him."
Luke's teachers Mrs. Strapulos, Mrs. Darnell, and Mrs. Sherman nominated him for Who's Who because of his work ethic and his desire to be successful. They say, "Super job, Luke! You are our hero!"
