2015 WW McAllen Houston Jade Herrera

Jade Herrera, a fifth grade student attending Sam Houston Elementary in McAllen, Texas, began using Essential Learning Systems (ELS) on October 10, 2013. During this school year, Jade’s dedication and commitment to learning have enabled her to complete the ELS program! In addition, Jade’s 2014-2015 Diagnostic Screening Test: Reading (DST:R) scores reflect significant levels of growth in all areas assessed. Her Comfort Reading Level grew from a 4.1 grade level equivalent to a 6.1 grade level equivalent, while her Comprehension level moved up from a 4.3 to a 6.8! Way to go, Jade!

Besides showing such remarkable growth, Jade has transformed into an avid reader who enjoys reading stories about dragons. Jade’s classroom teacher, Ms. Hernandez, is amazed at how Jade very easily surpassed her personal goal of acquiring 100 Accelerated Reader (AR) points this school year. Currently, Jade has 230 AR points, and she continues to read daily. Jade also achieved an Advanced Academic Performance rating on the Reading section of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR), meaning she missed only a couple of questions. Jade is well prepared for the next grade level with a high likelihood of academic success. Jade’s high sense of self-direction will definitely lead Jade to achieve whatever she sets her mind to doing.

Jade, you have truly transformed into an academic all-star!
