Sterling City ISD Essential Learning Systems (ELS) Facilitator Rosario Williams wrote to share the accomplishments of first-grader Kenzi Marler:
Kenzi Marler is a hard working first-grader at Sterling City Elementary. She gives 100% in everything she is asked to do. In CEI class, she is always on task and willing to help others when they need help. With instruction from her teacher Mrs. Bearden and the CEI clas,s she has become a better reader. I am so proud of her growth and all the things that she has accomplished this year.
First Grade Teacher Christy Bearden shares:
As a beginning first-grader, Kenzi did not have a strong phonics background. She had letter recognition, but could not identify all of the letter sounds or blend words. She could read some words with a whole language technique.
After starting in the CEI lab with Mrs. Williams and having a strong phonics curriculum, she has just taken off! She is definitely on level with her peers, and she continues to use strategies that she learned this year. I am so proud of her work ethic. She is a joy in class and has a strong desire to learn!
Fantastic work, Kenzi!
