A second year Essential Learning Systems (ELS) student at Edinburg CISD’s B.L. Garza Middle School, Mark Rodriguez is an independent, attentive, self-motivated student who has maintained a 98% Post-Test average this year.
Mark takes learning very seriously. He believes he functions better when he has a routine, and ELS provides and reinforces that.
“He feels confident when he is in my classroom,” says facilitator Esther Montemayor. “He demonstrates growth in vocabulary, comprehension, spelling, and genres, which has allowed him to become a more fluent reader and writer in his class. He has also shown improvement in the editing part of writing.
“A veteran of the ELS program, Mark has made amazing progress. When he entered the lab at the beginning of his sixth grade year, he was meek and shy to speak. ELS has provided Mark the structure and confidence he needed, and in return, he has found his academic and linguistic comfort zone. He has made exceptional progress in the areas of decoding and sight word recall. He is moving along smoothly. I am so proud of his accomplishments.”
We’re proud of you, too, Mark!
